A comeback Daniil Medvedev claimed his maiden trophy for over two years with victory over Frenchman Moutet in the tournament championship match.

Medvedev, a ex- world number one, has had a difficult period, managing just one match at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the US Open.

Medvedev's varied form on the professional circuit - and struggles with his serve in specific - resulted in him exiting of the world's top 10 and eventually separating with long-time mentor Cervara.

Now collaborating with Johansson and Rohan Goetzke, he has consistently progressed in the past month - climaxing in a hard-fought competitive triumph over challenger Corentin Moutet.

It is Medvedev's first trophy after the 2023 Rome Masters and initial on a hard court from March of the previous year.

The win also indicates he has secured twenty-one titles at twenty-one distinct competitions.

"For the first time I am participating in a competition with my two daughters simultaneously, so to get a trophy is especially meaningful," commented world number 14 Medvedev.

"This championship is in tribute of my second daughter my daughter, because the first title I got when my child her name was delivered was for her."

The tennis star, the 2021 US Open champion, had failed in his past six championship matches, featuring in that event in the past months.

His counter-punching approach and regular reactions on the playing surface had prompted some to doubt if his ability to perform at the elite level was over.

Yet the 29-year-old has made changes in the last few weeks, making an effort to advance forward and compete aggressively, supported by an improved serve.

He came back from a disadvantage in the first set against the difficult Frenchman, taking four of the concluding five points to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before Moutet, bidding for his initial ATP Tour victory, gained dominance to push for a third set.

Moutet saved 4 early opportunities in a competitive third set before the champion won the break to 15 to close out the victory.

Suitably, he clinched victory with a point at the front of the court, with the Frenchman unable to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
